Veteran's aid & attendance program


The Veteran’s Aid and Attendance Program (A&A) or Housebound benefit is an additional monthly monetary benefit provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to eligible veterans and their surviving spouses who require daily living assistance due to disability or aging.


To qualify, the veteran or surviving spouse must meet both service requirements, care-related criteria and financial need. Requirements include:

  • Having served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day during wartime

  • Discharged under conditions other than dishonorable

  • Total net worth under $163,699

Veterans who are ineligible for the A&A benefit may still have other VA options to consider for in-home care, such as the Veteran’s Community Care Program (VCC or VCCP). A&A is supplemental to the VA Pension or Survivor Pension and can be used alongside VCC to pay for care.
